The Egg and the Becoming

The Egg and the Becoming

People argue about whether the chicken came first or the egg. But they’re asking the wrong question. They’re looking at it through the eyes of man. Logic, sequence, order. But creation was never just about order. It was about meaning.

The egg is not the beginning. The egg is a vessel. It is something that carries life, protects life, and gives life the chance to become what it was always meant to be. It cannot exist on its own. It needs warmth, protection, timing. Without those, what’s inside never becomes anything at all. And that’s the First truth: Life is not just created - it must be nurtured.

The egg is strong enough to protect what’s inside, yet fragile enough to be broken by the world outside. That balance is not a mistake. It is a lesson. Because that is exactly what we are. We carry something inside us. Something unseen, something not yet formed.

To others, we may just look like the shell. Plain. Ordinary. Still. But inside, there is potential for anything:
A predator.
A protector.
A creator.
A destroyer.
Something beautiful.
Something powerful.
And no one can truly see it until it emerges. That’s why judging the shell is foolish.
Because the shell is not the life, it is only the covering.

The second truth is this: What something becomes depends on its conditions.
An egg left in the cold will never hatch. An egg without protection will be destroyed. An egg disturbed too early will die before it has a chance to live. And so it is with people. Potential alone is not enough. Environment matters. Care matters. Timing matters. How many lives never become what they were meant to be, not because there was nothing inside them, but because they were never given the chance to grow? And yet… There comes a moment when what is inside must push outward. No one can hatch for it. No one can break the shell from the outside without risking its life.
It must struggle.
It must press.
It must fight its way out.

That is the third truth: Growth comes from within, through pressure.
Without pressure, there is no strength. Without resistance, there is no emergence. The struggle is not punishment. It is preparation. And when it finally breaks through, when it finally emerges. It is no longer what it was. It has become. That is why the egg matters. Not because it answers a simple question of “which came first,” but because it reveals something deeper: That life begins hidden. That it requires protection. That it depends on care. That it is shaped by its conditions. And that, in the end, it must fight its way into the world. So no — the egg is not the beginning.

The beginning is the Creator. The egg is the process. And the life inside it… That is the becoming.
